The Sicilian Sun

604 North Maple Avenue
Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ  07423

Date of Visit:  Sunday, February 21, 2010

Locals refer to this family owned restaurant as "The Sun". Their professional waitstaff are courteous, efficient and happy to serve. The food, service and atmosphere is great for any occasion, large or small.

During my visit their was a large family party taking place in the dining room, so both the pizza and dining room were very busy and noise levels were loud.  Service was prompt and attentive.  The owners and "Mom" stopped by our table to ensure the food was prepared to our satisfaction.

The "Sun" offers a full menu featuring authentic flavors from Southern Italy, made fresh to order, and use high quality ingredients to ensure great taste every time.  A special treat is "Mom's" homemade Italian cheesecake, which is positively delicious.

If you're looking for a good meal, reasonably priced, with a relaxing, attentive atmosphere and want to "bring your own spirits" then you'll certainly enjoy a visit to "The Sun".

Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern

1 Franklin Turnpike
Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423
201-445-4115
Date of Visit: Saturday, February 20, 2010

Our first visit to the newly renovated Inn was terrific. The new owners have done an outstanding job of renovating this 1796 home. The walls contain local memorabilia including a baseball uniform from the mid 20th century, maps and old photographs which reflect their attention to detail, with emphasis on maintaining and restoring the five dining rooms, library and bar to the original Revolutionary War-era décor.

The Inn offers a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy lunch or dinner with friends, family or to celebrate a special occasion. Each dining room has soft music playing and is equipped to accommodate business or private functions. In addition, they offer a supervised game room for young visitors to entertain themselves on Wii, Playstation or TV, for part of the meal, to allow the adults to enjoy a cocktail or dessert. Dress is casual.

The classic American menu emphasizes locally sourced and seasonally sustainable ingredients.  We enjoyed Yankee Pot Roast and Roasted Niman Ranch Filet Mignon which were prepared to perfection.  Other favorites include Niman Ranch Rib Eye, Braised Jamison Farms Lamb, Faroe Island Salmon, as well as new twists on comfort classics such as the Ho-Ho-Kus Tavern Burger and Goffle Road Roasted Chicken. Individual menus for Lunch, Dinner, Dessert, Tavern, Cordials and Wine are available.

Be sure to plan a visit soon, you’ll be glad you did.
